The district is close to the A5 trunk road from London to Holyhead and the M1 motorway from London to Yorkshire. Beyond Bedford is the A1 to Scotland. Aylesbury provides connections with the A40 from London to Oxford, Gloucester and South Wales and with the M40 to Birmingham.
