Town Twinning

Leighton Linslade is twinned with Coulommiers, a town some 40 miles east of Paris and also with Titisee-Neustadt in the High Black Forrest region of Southern Germany. The link with Coulommiers began in 1958 and was renewed in 1982 whilst the Titisee-Neustadt link was established in 1991. Over the years a number of local organisations in the town have formed lasting alliances with their counterparts, including the Grand Union Rappers, Heath Band, the Tennis Club, Cedars Jazz Band the Fire Brigade and at least one scout group.

Each country has its own twinning association that helps to co-ordinate various events.  A popular event held in Titisee-Neustadt is Fasnet which occurs a week before Lent and is an explosion of fun and festivity. Coulommiers hosts an annual International Cheese and Wine Festival and a Christmas Fayre, both of which have attracted coach loads of visitors in recent years.  Leighton-Linslade has invited guests from its twin towns to the annual summer Carnival and more recently to the Linslade Canal and Waterside Festival.

A "Deed of Friendship" also exists with Marondera in Zimbabwe which was signed in 1992 but which has seen very little activity in recent years, due in part to the instability of the local government there. Some points of contact do remain however and these are being maintained, if only at a limited level.
